How to kickflip

Being an old dude who took a big break from skateboarding I felt like an overweight has been stepping back onto that board.

One thing I did notice, was everything required a bit extra thought now that my brain has become non skate related wisdom. I feel beginners are at a much higher advantage these days with millions of people on online willing to share their knowledge and trick tips.

Back in my day we either had to spend every free minute of the day making mistakes, a paperback tutorial in a skate magazine or a little help from our friends.

Well, if you don't have any friends or at least any rad ones who skate, let the power of the internet help you, I will be posting 'how to's' every now and then from who I find provide the best explanation.

Where can I watch Propeller: A Vans Skateboarding Video

Literally one of the raddest skate edits this side of 2015, I have watched this at least 4 times this month, don't sleep on it.

You can watch this via iTunes here.

On vimeos on demand here

Although I don't condone obtaining the video in unethical ways, i'm sure a free link will be posted by someone somewhere below in the comments.

How to build a mini ramp, brah

I'm a big fan of Vice and the majority of their obscure take on journalism, so when I found out Billy Rohan, a skateboarder from New York City had filmed a 'How to build a mini ramp' online video needless to say I was stoked. (Even if I am over 2 years late for the party)

When I was a little devil child, building ramps with the crew we had to get creative with what ever we could find laying around building sites at night. Sadly as rebellious youths we wasn't blessed with YouTube or people taking the time out of their day to share their knowledge of ramp building with us. We had to figure it out on our own, to be honest it was fun, a challenge and gave me an insight on carpentry.

Once I have cleared out the space, okay'd it with the girl, and figured out how huge I can make it I will definitely be following Billy Rohan and the Vice team on their mini ramp voyage.

If you do decide to build your own, leave me a comment so I can reminisce on my youth or get ideas for my future!

VIDEO: Lil Wayne skateboarding in Miami

Lil Wayne's skateboarding does seem to be improving ever so slightly, YouTube clip by clip, day by day. Everyone starts somewhere and some of the negative comments people are putting out on social media regarding his skateboarding is a bit disappointing in my opinion.

Here is one of his latest video features, skating what looks to be a DIY skate spot with his crew Evan Hernandez, YO YO, Shuriken Shannon, Andre Colbert amongst others.

Heck I don't even get this kind of exposure and i've been skating mediocre for years now.

How to: Stop ripping your shoe laces when skateboarding

Sick to death of buying new laces and re-lacing your skate shoes every few weeks? or even more ripping holes in your shoes.

Don't stress I've got a few solutions for you!

Super glue your shoes

I know it sounds mental, and might even look unpleasant, but bro, its better than buying new laces or shoes every few weeks. Using superglue on your laces and around the stitching where your tares and holes normally appear will provide longevity.

You can use practically any super glue, as long as it's not water based. Quick drying is a must for me as i'm impatient, I also find it can still become sticky in the sun if I use a cheaper slower acting glue.

Super glue
If you are lucky enough to own a hot glue gun or have the cash to purchase one this is also a great option. This requires electricity and glue refills but I find I can get a much neater job done using one of these and an old wooden lolipop stick (The following will also do the job: cardboard, scrap bendy plastic, old credit card...)

I try and pay attention to sections of the shoe with stitching, filling the stitched holes and the stitches themselves with glue, this prevents them becoming unraveled.

See below a smart kid demonstrating the same idea.

Shoe Goo

If you don't have any superglue hanging around, instead of going out and spending your money on superglue it might be beneficial buying something specifically to fix your skate shoes. If you haven't heard of Shoe Goo before you're in for a treat.

Shoe Goo is a product that is designed to fix holes, tears and for strengthening your shoes, basically all the footwear problems we face as skateboarders.

Last tube I bought cost me £6.00 including delivery from eBay and lasted me over a year.

Below you will find a guy explaining/demonstrating Shoe Goo better than I can.

Duct tape

Perfect to keep in your backpack when on the road and in need of an emergency fix. If you're not bothered by the visual state of your kicks or the weird unorthodox feeling.

Not recommended but a quick fix if you're in desperate need.

Duct taped skate shoes
Do's

Haggard man lady high heels.
DONT's

No rip grip tape

Might be a myth but these guys are promoting a grip tape that apparently doesn't rip shoe material . I'm a bit skeptical about this and I can't seem to find a way of actually buying some but have a look.

Apparently available here - www.sotaskate.com

Hope this helps guys, skate every day.

Where can I find the Stussy font for FREE? here you go bro.

Stüssy are another one of those brands that I just loved from the first time I saw that leaky ink drawn logo.

Woahh woahh woahh, I know the original logo is hand drawn

But being a gentleman that has studied in graphic design and has a soft spot for well designed fonts (especially free fonts) finding one that replicated the Stüssy brand was like the ending scene of 40 year old virgin.

So where can I get the Stüssy font for free?

Snatch and grab from here:

Supreme full-length skate video "Cherry"

As you may already be aware we are huge Supreme fans here at DIGITALSYMMETRY, we may not always be the quickest off the mark when it comes to bragging about the latest collaboration or the newest range of winter jackets they have released but we do quite enjoy the brand.

For me the initial attraction to supreme was my obsession with NYC (that's New York City to you) and my life-long love for skateboarding.

Alex Olson, Dylan Rieder, Na-kel Smith, Mark Gonzales, Tyshawn Jones and Jason Dill's mugs all appear behind the lens in that signature Supreme "cool as fuck" style by the impressive William Strobeck.

Supreme's -"Cherry"- drops today! (27th March 2014) on iTunes US
